This left bone provides an excellent training opportunity for all surgery on the tympanic membrane, ossicular chain, middle ear and mastoid.
The photograph shows a collection of Bone 3s mounted in polystyrene foam ready for dissection. This presentation of the bones is ideal for use with a Pettigrew Temporal Bone Holder (see Accessories section). However, if desired, the bone can be easily removed from the foam.
A grommet is in postion in the antero-inferior part of the tympanic membrane. In the modified radical mastoidectomy you can identify from superior to inferior, the lateral semicircular canal, the horizontal facial nerve, the stapes and the promontory.
