This large right bone has 10 cm of adjacent squamous bone with a well pneumatised mastoid and is ideal for all operations on the tympanic membrane, middle ear and mastoid. It is also suitable for practising the insertion of auditory implants that need fixation to the skull.
The bones are orientated in the operating position, placed in a square box and held in position with polystyrene foam. This presentation is designed for use with a Pettigrew Temporal Bone Holder (see Accessories section) but the bone can be easily removed from the foam if this is required.
The largest photograph shows a collection of 24 Bone 2s mounted and ready for dissection.
The smaller photographs shows Bone 2 with a 0.7mm stapedotomy with a 0.6mm piston in place. Pink dye has been added to aid identification of details.
The smallest photograph shows a Bone 2 where a perforation of the tympanic membrane has been made, ready for practising a myringoplasty.
